60th Convocation Ceremony of XISS

Xavier Institute of Social Service (XISS) Ranchi organised its 60th Annual Convocation (virtual for students) ceremony for PGDM batch of 2019-21 in the Fr. Michael Van den Bogaert, SJ Memorial Auditorium in campus on 27 August 2021 (Friday).

Students turned professionals and entrepreneurs received their PGDM degree after having completed a two-year rigorous academic training where they were trained to be industry ready using the varied learning mechanisms such as classroom discussions, seminars, summer internship program, workshops, research, live projects, social exposures and many more.

A total of 298 students of Batch 2019-21 were awarded their diplomas at the convocation ceremony. 28 students from all five programmes were declared the top rank holders and amongst them 11 gold, 09 silver and 06 bronze medals along with 2 cash prizes were distributed respectively.

The event was presided over by Mr. Vishal Badshah, Plant Head, Tata Motors Jamshedpur, who delivered the convocation address. Also present at the ceremony were Fr. Ajit Kumar Xess, SJ, Chairman, XISS Governing Body along with Dr. Joseph Marianus Kujur SJ, Director XISS; Dr. Pradeep Kerketta SJ, Assistant Director, XISS; Fr. Xavier Soreng SJ, Superior, XISS; Fr. Francis David Kullu SJ, Finance Officer, XISS, along with Dr. Ramakant Agrawal, Head PGDM (Human Resource Management); Dr. Himadri Sinha, Head PGDM (Rural Management); Dr. Mahua Banerjee Head, PGDM (IT); Dr. Arup Mukherjee, Head, PGDM (Finance) and Dr. Pinaki Ghosh, PGDM (IT); Dr. Arup Mukherjee, Head,

PGDM (Finance) and Dr. Pinaki Ghosh, Head, PGDM (Marketing) and other faculty members, esteemed alumni and medallists for the batch of 2019-21.

As the graduates were eagerly waiting to receive their degrees, the event started with a prayer song seeking the blessings of the Almighty. The ceremony began with the opening remarks by Fr. Ajit Kumar Xess, SJ, Chairman, who declared the Convocation ceremony open and, in his address, congratulated XISS and the graduating students for their achievements and motivated them to not forget their value system, work ethics and humanity. He wished students his best for their career and future ahead and said that XISS creates leaders on the pillars of holistic education, by embodying the principles of compassion, competence, and commitment towards the development of the marginalized. He also encouraged the graduating students to carry forward the XISS legacy.

The ceremony continued with the Director Dr. Joseph Marianus Kujur SJ presenting the annual report of 2020-2021 where he highlighted the institute’s performance and achievements of the programmes and students. He stressed on the importance of reinforcing the principle of Magis i.e., more and more with an even higher focus than before which will enrich the efforts of the institute towards greater success and will curb stagnation, promote openness, as well as enable us to look beyond ourselves.

He mentioned that 108 companies from different sectors such as Consultancy, Automobile, Power, Steel, Edu-tech, BFSI, IT, Retail, Telecom, Pharma and Social/Non-profit organisations visited the college for placements. The highest package offered was Rs 15.00 lakhs per annum and the average CTC offered was Rs 5.77 lakhs per annum. These students also underwent their summer internship programs at leading firms which helped then in gaining industrial experience.

The Director also highlighted the use of various innovative teaching methodologies which the faculty members adapted during the tough phase of lockdown and appreciated their efforts.

Honourable Chief Guest, Mr. Vishal Badshah, Plant Head, Tata Motors, Jamshedpur handed over diplomas and special awards of merit to the deserving students. During the Convocation address, he congratulated XISS on its numerous accomplishments throughout the years and motivated students to face the world with confidence and shine and bring laurels to the institution. He stressed on maintaining self-discipline to achieve excellence and advised the students to be the torch bearers of the transformation of society. He appreciated the institute’s goal to provide a holistic curriculum to students and advised students to use their degree in service to mankind.

Further in the event Mr. Badshah released the 'AXIS 2021'- annual of XISS along with other publications namely Machine Learning Applications by Dr Rik Das and combined volume of Jharkhand Journal of Development and Management Studies (JJDMS).

Over the years, XISS has earned enviable reputation of being one of the finest business schools in the country and region. Outlook Group in 2021 ranked the institute as 5th in the Eastern Zone, 18th in private Standalone Institutions and 42nd in Top Private B-Schools of the country. In 2021, XISS was ranked at 38th position by the TIMES Annual B-School Survey as well. The strength of the institute lies in its vast academic profile, diversity, social connection, and esteemed alumni spread across the world. The institute presently offers an excellent infrastructure, outstanding students, and the best of core faculty for its five programmes.

The dignitaries were presented with souvenirs to mark the celebration. The vote of thanks was proposed by Dr. Pradeep Kerketta SJ, Assistant Director, XISS. The ceremony was successfully coordinated by Dr. Kumar Mohit Spring and Dr. Rajshree Verma. The ceremony closed with the national anthem and all those present went home with flying colours.
