Webinar on Road safety held at XISS

Obscura- The Media Club and Rotaract Club of Social Revolution (RCSR), the student clubs of XISS, in a joint collaboration organized ‘CROSS ROADS’, a webinar on road safety in collaboration with Rise Up, on June 12 2022. Rise Up is a non-governmental organization dedicated to ensuring safer streets through road safety awareness and advocacy. The webinar was attended by 58 students from Obscura and RCSR.

Dr Joseph Marianus Kujur SJ, Director, XISS, appreciating this initiative encouraged everyone to stay safe and also keep others safe. He mentioned that European countries namely Iceland, Norway, Sweden and Switzerland are among the countries that strictly follow the traffic rules, which is not the top priority among us Indians. It has to be a part of our consciousness to be self-disciplined in both private and public domain. The call for today is to save ourselves and the planet.

He further added that life is a gratuitous gift, and we need to take care of it. Only if we take care of our lives, then only we can take care of others. This initiative will bring a change starting from today and save many precious lives as well as ensure the well-being of humanity.

Mr Rishabh Anand, Founder, Rise Up, being the speaker of the event urged the students to keep giving reminders to one another to follow the traffic rules and be aware of road safety. He presented detailed information about the mishaps during driving and said that it’s not possible to avoid roads in our daily lives. In worldwide road crashes, India contributes about 11%, in which vehicles are contributing to only 1%, the rest are pedestrians. 17 people die every hour on Indian roads.

He also mentioned that youth in the age group of 16-25 are in the pro-zone to be affected by speed. Road rage, distracted driving and blind spots are some of the contributing factors to road accidents. He urged on medical facility for such accidents and that CPR plays an important role in saving people’s lives.

The webinar was well coordinated by Shreyash Rajgaria, Rishu Singhania, Aryan Mishra, Shreya and Pratiksha.
