XISS and Urban Development & Housing Department, GoJ conducted one-day awareness program on Ranchi Smart City Mission

Xavier Institute of Social Service (XISS), Ranchi and Urban Development & Housing Department, Govt. of Jharkhand conducted one-day awareness program on Ranchi Smart City Mission on 25 June 2022. This program was part of celebration of Amrut Mahotsav across India on the occasion of 75 years of our Independence.

The program was facilitated by Ranchi Smart City Office under the guidance of Mr Rakesh Kr. Nandkeolyar (General Manager – Tech). The primary goal of program was to make students informed about development in Ranchi Smart City Project, which is officially called as “Integrated Infrastructure Development work – Ranchi Smart City” and the various initiatives taken into consideration under the project and their work in progress as well as challenges and opportunities. The detailed presentations were conducted by officials of Larsen & Toubro (L&T), the organization responsible for construction of Ranchi Smart City Project.

Ranchi is one of the 100 smart cities under the Smart City Mission of the Government of India. For development of modern state-of-the-art amenities, Smart City of Ranchi will also offer opportunities to investors in the areas of real estate, health, education, housing and hospitality among others. It will be so designed so as to provide all basic amenities like good quality water and electricity supply, solid waste management system, scientific sewerage and drainage systems, IT connectivity, digitization, e-governance and public participation.

The program began with a presentation by Project planning Head (L&T) Mr Kunal Roy Chaudhary, where he explained about the total cost of project which is around 469.96 crore rupees and the project encumbrance free land of 656 acres of land. He further discussed that the entire land is divided into 72 Plots which is also categorized into various parts such as Residential, Institutional, Occupational etc. This is first phase of project which is responsible for development of basic necessary infrastructure to ensure road connectivity, electricity and water availability. He also mentioned that the entire project is being fed by 7 Sub-stations, 4 of which is responsible for electricity availability and 3 for water supply, sewage, and recycling of water respectively. 3 lane roads have also been constructed to facilitate proper connectivity and all wirings be it electrical or telecom related are grounded by a PLB Ducts which has longevity of 100 years. 1470 smart lighting are also provided as these lightings are SCADA controlled and also have dreamer controller to minimize consumption. Under CSR initiatives and for ensuring greenery around the site about 38000 plants have been planted and nurtured by (L&T) throughout the 656 acres area.

The roads are specifically designed based on load requirement and having different section for cycling, foot path and blind persons. The roads are made by bitumen with three layered and having cross section for water discharge during rainy seasons.

The program culminated with physical site visit where Mr Ranjeet Sengar, Electrical Head (L&T) & Mr Rounak Baul, Site Engineer (L&T) showed all the above-mentioned infrastructure projects such as roads and electrical substations and they also answered student’s queries.
