‘Ven a Casa’ – Annual Alumni Meet celebrated XISS

Xavier Institute of Social Service (XISS), Ranchi organised ‘Ven a Casa’ – The Annual Alumni meet on 11 February 2023. This grand Alumni Meet was organized for its alumni who have been working in various parts of India and abroad too. It was a moment to revisit, recollect, relive, redefine, and renew the past, present, and future. The meet was organized by XISS Ranchi at its Ranchi campus where XISS alumni office played a pivotal role in organizing this event. The program was sponsored by Maruti Suzuki, POWERGRID, XISS Hyderabad Alumni Association (XAAH), ECIL, BMW, NTPC, SDS, and LEADS.

Overall, 132 alumni working in various parts organizations got themselves registered for the event. The event began with the lighting of the lamp, followed by a melodious prayer song and an inaugural video showing the past, present, and future of XISS. The lighting ceremony was attended by Director, XISS, Dr Joseph Marianus Kujur SJ, along with Assistant Director, Dr Pradeep Kerketta SJ, Superior, XISS, Fr Xavier Soreng SJ, Finance Officer, XISS, Fr Claber Minj SJ, Dean Academics, XISS, Dr Amar Eron Tigga, All Chapter Presidents of AAXISS, Faculty, Staff, and Students of XISS.

Director, XISS addressed the august gathering and shared that Ven a Casa is organised to connect a sense of ownership & sense of belongingness between the alumnus and the Institute. He extended his heartfelt thanks to all alumni for displaying loyalty to their alma mater. He mentioned that they are the ones who take the family of XISS beyond geographical boundaries. He congratulated everyone present and thanked alumni on behalf of students for their guidance & assistance in recruitments and their personality development. He further mentioned that every XISS Alumni is now part of the extended Jesuit family. Director, XISS, reiterated that XISS family is determined to take the position of XISS among the 30 top business schools. He concluded with a saying, “Yesterday I was clever, so I wanted to change the world. Today, I am wise, so I am changing myself.”

There were presentations by XISS alumni chapters of different cities by the respective presidents. Mr Mussarat Hussain (President, Delhi Chapter), Mr Amitabh Das (President, Bangalore Chapter), Mr Venkat Ramanayya (President, Hyderabad Chapter), Mr Shahid Maswood (President, Patna Chapter), Mr Niraj Kumar Lal (President, Gujarat Chapter), and Mr Jasbir Singh Khurana (President, Ranchi Chapter) gave their chapter presentations. The felicitation ceremony of 102 alumni passing in the year 1977 to 1997 was also done during the event.

Some of the important remarks made by the respected alumni included their appreciation to the institute for achieving NBA Accreditation. They also mentioned that XISS is a brand across the country which is a moment of pride for all. President of different chapters discussed avenues of joint publication collaborations and showed keen interest to support XISS in upcoming university plans, and to make efforts to motivate and engage the students in their organizations.

Post lunch, there was also department-wise interaction and experience sharing of the alumni with the first and second-year students. Students interacted with the respective alumni along with the faculty members of the departments. Some of the alumni remembered their college days and shared their experiences. As the majority of Alumni were from the 1990s batch, basketball game between XISS students and alumni was organised to make the gathering more enjoyable and joyful which was won by the alumni.

In the evening, a special performance by JAP-1 band was organised during the programme. There were songs, dance, and Open Mic performances by the students and alumni. A poster of ‘the Book on Alumni Journey,’ was inaugurated. Also, a book launch was conducted by the dignitaries and copies were distributed. Felicitation of all alumni present was a highlight of the event in the evening. The program was followed by live music and a gala dinner.
