247 students graduate at XISS’s 63rd Annual Convocation
Xavier Institute of Social Service (XISS), Ranchi, one of the premier B-Schools of the country, celebrated its 63rd Annual Convocation Ceremony in the campus on May 04, 2024, Saturday.
247 students across four programmes, including 75 students in Human Resource Management, 55 students in Rural Management, 58 students in Financial Management, and 59 students in Marketing Management graduated during the ceremony. 22 students from across programmes were declared top rank holders and amongst them 11 gold, 07 silver, and 04 bronze medals were distributed with 06 students receiving cash prizes worth Rs 1,72,000/. Meanwhile, 24 students were also awarded with Institutional Scholarships worth Rs 7.2 lakhs under the Fr Michael Van den Bogaert SJ Memorial Scholarship for meritorious students of SC/ST category, Fr Michael Albert Windey SJ Memorial Scholarship for meritorious students on the whole open to all, and Fr Louis Francken SJ Memorial Scholarship for overall performance of all categories of students.
Chief Guest, Shri Rajeev Dubey, Chairman, Mahindra First Choice Wheels Ltd. (MFCWL), Mahindra Insurance Brokers Ltd. (MIBL), Mahindra Steel Service Centre Ltd. (MSSCL), and Member of the Governing Body, International Labour Organisation, Geneva graced the occasion. Congratulating the graduating students, he wished that the class of 2024 enters the world with a positive attitude and a strong determination to change the world. He mentioned that truly, XISS creates professional with a difference.
He advised students to be conscious of the climate and environmental change as it would be one of the most important issues in the coming future. He sketched the current comparison scenario of the interconnected world through VUCA and BANI and how it has a pushback from all stakeholders. He mentioned that now the graduates also the upcoming leaders would have to operate and make proactive decisions.
Shri Dubey stated three fundamental mindsets for success, he said that students should acknowledge that there is infinite untapped potential in every human being, innovation is the key to survival, and driving positive change in the lives of people.
Earlier, opening the 63rd convocation ceremony, Fr Ajit Kumar Xess SJ, Chairman, XISS-Governing Body addressed the gathering and urged them to embrace continuous learning and curiosity, essential for personal and professional growth. He further mentioned them to maintain a positive attitude towards work to elevate their career and become a winner in their respective fields. He sought them to keep the beacon of legacy of XISS through their actions.
While congratulating the passing out students and presenting the Annual Report of 2023-24, Director, XISS, Dr Joseph Marianus Kujur SJ highlighted the achievements, learnings, practices, and strategies of the Institute in the past year. He addressed the students and said that they all have worked hard and shown diligence to acquire the knowledge, skills and values that will enable them to become competent and compassionate leaders in their chosen fields.
He further said that as each one of you step out into the world, remember that you are not only carrying a degree but also a legacy of XISS. You are the ambassadors of our vision and mission to create a more just, humane, and sustainable world. You all are expected to uphold the values of conscience, compassion, competence, commitment, and character that have been instilled in you by your mentors and peers.
Giving them success mantras for their corporate journey ahead, Dr Kujur mentioned stating that in today’s dynamic and rapidly evolving business landscape, the ability to harness the power of data analytics has become indispensable for decision-making, driving innovation and competitive advantage. He mentioned that as they embark on your professional endeavors, they should embrace the significance of data analytics and leverage its potential to drive impactful change. Dream and aspire to your heart’s content, but do not forget to give back to the society that has nurtured you. Be courageous to stand up for what is right and just. Living up to the legacy of successful placements, we are inching towards full placements in leading companies of the nation, he mentioned and concluded his address.
Further in the ceremony, Fr Michael Van den Bogaert SJ Memorial "Distinguished Alumni Award" was awarded to Mr Salil Lal, Executive Officer & CHRO, Maruti Suzuki Private Limited (MSIL) from Batch 1990-1992 of the Human Resource Management Programme.
The ceremony continued with the releases of AXIS 2024 – Annual of XISS, Combined Volume of Jharkhand Journal of Development and Management Studies (JJDMS) 2023-24, XISS-UNICEF Report-SAMPARK 2023-24, and International Conference Proceedings. A special recognition celebration for 03 employees for 15 years of service and more to the Institution was also organised.
The vote of thanks was delivered by Dr Pradeep Kerketta SJ, Assistant Director, XISS. Dr Amar E. Tigga, Dean Academics; Fr Claber Minj SJ, Finance Officer; along with Dr Shyamal Gomes, Head PGDM (Human Resource Management); Dr Anant Kumar, Head PGDM (Rural Management); Dr Bhaskar Bhowani, Head, PGDM (Finance), Dr Bhabani Prasad Mahapatra, Head, PGDM (Marketing). other faculty & staff members, esteemed alumni, and parents of graduating students of batch of 2022-24 were also present during the annual ceremony. The ceremony was successfully coordinated by Dr Ramakant Agrawal and Dr Pooja. The ceremony closed with the national anthem as the student’s bid adieu to the Institute.
