XISS proudly celebrated International Day of the World's Indigenous Peoples
Xavier Institute of Social Service (XISS), Ranchi proudly celebrated the International Day of the World's Indigenous Peoples amidst joy and harmony in its campus. Every year, this day is celebrated as the International Day of the World's Indigenous People to promote and protect the rights of the Indigenous population. The faculty, staff, and students of XISS celebrated the peaceful life of the Indigenous Community as they actively participated in this event.
Dr Joseph Marianus Kujur SJ, Director, XISS, in his address highlighted the theme of the day for the year, 'Indigenous Youth as Agents of Change for Self-Determination.’ He said, that the timing could not be better for the theme as the world is looking towards the youth power of India. The youth today is awake and aware of their surroundings and their responsibility towards the environment. He emphasised that the tribal community needs to widen their belief system and while in a struggle for their identity, now need to work along with modernity, still holding on to their roots. He also spoke about the history of tribals and how they have evolved over decades.
Moving further, Dr Pradeep Kerketta SJ, Assistant Director discussed the situation of implementation of schemes for the welfare of tribals. He highlighted the need to address the concern and save the originality of this community.
Dean Academics, Dr Amar E. Tigga discussed about sustainability and its importance. He highlighted in accordance with the theme how the Indigenous Community has always been closer to the environment and now the youth from the community must become the change-makers of the society.
The staff and students of XISS later presented several group dance performances on local songs and enjoyed the day in unison as they celebrated the event.
