XISS hosts special celebration to commemorate Feast of St Ignatius of Loyola

Xavier Institute of Social Service (XISS), Ranchi, celebrated the Feast of St Ignatius of Loyola in the campus on 30 July 2025. Observed annually across Jesuit institutions, the day honours the founder of the Society of Jesus and his enduring legacy.

Dr Joseph Marianus Kujur SJ, Director, XISS, welcomed everyone for the Holy Mass and focused on the theme of this year, “Ever to love and to serve”. In his homily, he reflected on how love and service are not only two profound concepts but also lived realities that define human existence. He emphasised that true love brings with it a deep sense of commitment, whether to a person, a cause, or a community, and this commitment naturally manifests in selfless service. He encouraged both faculty and students to embody this spirit in their academic and personal lives, fostering a culture rooted in compassion, responsibility, and active contribution to society.

The Feast Day celebration commenced with an entrance hymn, a Gloria dance, and a solemn Bible procession in the auditorium. The Holy Mass was led in prayer by Dr Joseph Marianus Kujur SJ, along with Dr Pradeep Kerketta SJ, Fr Ashok Kandulna SJ, Fr Nicholas Barla SJ, Fr Prem Xalxo SJ, and Fr Ashok Sandil marking a spiritually enriching start to the day’s observance.
St. Ignatius of Loyola, founder of the Society of Jesus, is remembered for his vision of faith, service, and reflection. Ignatian spirituality teaches us to find God in all things, view the world as a place of service, and honour the body as a source of wisdom and discernment.

The ceremony was coordinated by Dr Shyamal Gomes, Head, Human Resource Management Programme and Dr Amar E. Tigga, Dean Academics was also present during the event.
