Child Line is a national 24 hours emergency outreach service and is a free phone helpline for children in need of care and protection. The Child Line number 1098 is a toll free number that is common in all cities in India where Child Line is operational. Currently Child Line is operational in 275 cities across the 30 states and union territories. Child Line aims to reach out to the most marginalised children between the age group 0 – 18 years and provide relief and rehabilitation in the form of shelter; medical aid; repatriation, rescue, emotional support and guidance. XISS is the state nodal agency for Child Line in Jharkhand.

The Child Line number 1098 spells “hope” for millions of marginalised and traumatised children across India. On dialling the number 1098 in the Ranchi district, the Child Line nodal centre at XISS responds to the emergency needs of the children and links them services for their long term care and rehabilitation. The Child Line nodal centre at XISS has till date responded t more than 1800 emergency calls.

The child Line project is supported by the Ministry for Women and Child Development, Government of India. Other partners for the program are UNICEF, Department of Telecommunications, street and community youth, non profit organisations, academic Institutions, corporate agencies and enlightened youth and individuals. Child Line works towards ensuring that all children in need of care and protection are aware of and have access to the services which are child friendly, available when they want it and encourages them to participate in decisions the affect them.
