Consultative Workshop on “Performance Evaluation of Tribal Sub-Plan: Jharkhand: Challenges and Opportunities”

Xavier Institute of Social Service (XISS), Ranchi, in association with Dr Ramdayal Munda Tribal Welfare Research Institute Jharkhand (TRI), Jharkhand organized a consultative workshop on “Performance Evaluation of Tribal Sub-Plan (TSP): Jharkhand: Challenges and Opportunities.” This workshop provided a platform to bring together senior bureaucrats, academicians, and subject experts, to share their expertise and insights on developing a robust and effective framework for TSP impact assessment.

The welcome note was delivered by Dr Joseph Marianus Kujur SJ, Director, XISS wherein he welcomed everyone to the workshop. He discussed about the history of Tribal Sub-Plan which was established with an initiative for rapid socio-economic development of tribal people, the Ministry of Education and Social Welfare had set up Tribal Sub-Plan, after recommendation of an Expert Committee under Chairmanship of Prof. S.C. Dube in 1972. The aim of TSP was to look after the over-all socio-economic development of tribals and to raise them above poverty level, and protect tribals from various forms of exploitation.

Dr Kujur informed about the purpose of the workshop and mentioned it to enable understanding the mechanism of the TSP fund flow, examine the existing implementation strategies & challenges, and to explore the roadmap for strengthening TSP implementation in Jharkhand.

Earlier, in the event, Dr Bhabani Prasad Mahapatra, Head, Marketing Management Programme set the tone of the workshop. The Current Practices and Challenges in TSP Strategy in Jharkhand & Role and Implications of the Nodal Agency were discussed by Mr Ajay Nath Jha, IAS, Tribal Commissioner, Jharkhand. The Challenges in TSP & the Way Forward were discussed by Mr Johnson Topno, Director Programmes, PHIA Foundation.

Meanwhile, Allocation & Distribution of TSP Funds among all Districts and their Utilisation was discussed by Dr Jawed Alam Khan, Senior Economist, CBGA, New Delhi during the work. Dr Neha Prasad, Research Associate, TRI gave a future roadmap for the project.

The workshop went ahead with an Open House and concluded with a valedictory session.
