Xavier Institute of Social Service (XISS), Ranchi, marked the International Day of the World’s Indigenous Peoples with vibrant traditional dance and thought-provoking discussions, reaffirming its commitment to honouring and preserving Indigenous heritage in the campus on 9 August 2025.
Dr Pradeep Kerketta SJ, Assistant Director, XISS, in his address, emphasized the significance of the day, noting that it is a time to recognize the resilience, wisdom, and cultural richness of Indigenous communities while advocating for their rights, dignity, and sustainable future.
Further, Fr Ashok Kandulna SJ, Finance Officer, XISS, highlighted the importance of fostering empathy and understanding towards Indigenous struggles, urging everyone to become advocates for equity and justice. Dr Amar E Tigga, Dean Academics, discussed the history for observing this day as not just a celebration but as a stark reminder of the challenges faced during this journey and encouraged all to enhance their existing skills and mentor and uplift those lacking access to education and knowledge.

The celebration ended with a traditional dance performance by faculty and staff who came dressed in ethnic attires which showcased the solidarity and shared values within the XISS community. This event exemplifies the institute’s commitment to celebrating cultural diversity and promoting the rights of Indigenous peoples through education, awareness, and community engagement.
