Dr Pedro Walpole SJ, a climate activist gives a talk on Climate Change
The Rural Management Programme of XISS, Ranchi, organized a talk on Climate Change on 19 November 2024. The talk was delivered by Dr Pedro Walpole SJ, an eminent climate activist, and hydrologist, who has dedicated his life to addressing environmental challenges and advocating for sustainable solutions. Dr Pedro Walpole is a Jesuit priest from Ireland. He works on sustainable environment, community land management, and disaster risk reduction management in Southeast Asia, with local communities, universities, international organizations, and governments. He practices a people-focused approach to capacity building and seeks to promote more lasting partnerships through research, consultations, and policy building to support local populations and governments. He is a research director for the Environmental Science for Social Change, Philippines, a Jesuit research organization promoting environmental sustainability and social justice through the integration of scientific methodologies and social processes. He is also the global coordinator of Ecojesuit and the coordinator of the River above Asis Oceania Ecclesial Network. Dr Pedro holds a doctorate in land use change from King’s College, London. His interests include seeking social justice through environmental management, poverty reduction in forest lands, partnerships for local development, and advancing social concerns in forest law enforcement and governance, climate justice, and Indigenous peoples’ rights.
