One Week Management Development Programme on “GIS for Land Resource Management” for Tata Steel Managers

Xavier Institute of Social Service (XISS), Ranchi, on the request of TATA Steel, organized a One Week Management Development Programme on “GIS for Land Resource Management” in the GIS Lab, XISS from 29 January to 2 February 2024. The event saw enthusiastic participation from Managers from Tata Steel.

The Management Development Programme (MDP) commenced with the inaugural remarks of the Director, Dr Joseph Marianus Kujur SJ, who warmly welcomed the participants and said that XISS's continuous commitment to promote applications of latest technological practices while planning business decisions is important in today’s time and this MDP marks the first series of MDP for Tata Steel Managers.

Dr Amar E Tigga, Dean Academics, XISS, echoed the same sentiment in his welcome address, placing a strong emphasis on how the applications of Spatial Technology has revolutionised various corporate operations. The coordinator of the MDP programme Dr Prakash Chandra Dash, Assistant Professor, and Coordinator of Geoinformatics Research Centre (GRC), XISS spelt out the specific objectives, expected learning and skill outcomes of the MDP Programme.

The MDP was conducted by Dr Dash, hands on Training were imparted by Mr Sunil Pratap Kumar and Ms Malti Murmu. The MDP covered a wide spectrum of topics, ranging from Concept and Importance of Georeferencing, various Data models in GIS, UTM Projection system, Application of DGPS in land Measurement. The Executives from Tata Steels also took part in the Field Training for usage of DGPS.

The valedictory session marked the successful culmination of the MDP Programme, during which the Director and Finance Officer of the institute congratulated all the participants for completing the rigorous MDP on GIS. The Director expressed hope that the knowledge gained would contribute to both personal and professional growth of the participants while encouraging them to ensure sustainable development practices while implementing various business decisions. He also affirmed XISS's ongoing commitment to promote ethical business and effective Tech application by responsible industrial organisations.

Participants expressed their heartfelt thanks to XISS for organising such an important MDP. Certificates were conferred upon all the participants during the closing ceremony, symbolizing the successful culmination of the weeklong MDP on GIS. The Coordinator of the MDP programme described it to be of symbiotic in nature as both academics and business executives get enriched by exchanging their perspectives while brainstorming business problems during such MDPs. XISS looks forward to continuing its efforts towards academic enrichment and collaboration with business organisations, fostering a culture of excellence and learning.
