RBI Regional Director addresses Financial Inclusion & Literacy Session at XISS

Xavier Institute of Social Service (XISS), Ranchi, organised an insightful session on Financial Inclusion and Literacy as part of Reserve Bank of India (RBI’s) nationwide educational initiative, "RBI @90", which aims to spread financial awareness across 90 institutions in India. The session was conducted by Shri Prem Ranjan Prasad Singh, Regional Director, Reserve Bank of India (RBI) in the campus on Tuesday.

In the session, Shri Singh highlighted the critical role of financial literacy in an era dominated by digital transactions. He mentioned that while India accounts for nearly 48% of the world's digital transactions, financial knowledge remains limited at only 27% of the population and merely 17% of students possess adequate financial awareness. This gap underscores the urgent need for financial education.

The session covered topics of importance where being financially aware was considered the best kind of literacy these days. The highest concern amidst digital payments and rising frauds cases were discussed in detail by giving examples of such cases and ways to handle them. Another session on fraud awareness & prevention stressed on the key safety measures, including never clicking on unknown links, not sharing OTPs or passwords, avoiding QR code scans for receiving payments etc. RBI Helpline Number (1930) and official website (www.rbi.org.in) were highlighted as resources for fraud prevention and any fraud reporting resolution.

Later in the session, Dr Amar Eron Tigga, Dean Academics, highlighted the importance to understand financial literacy to ensure financial stability in life. He also advised students to explore the career opportunities of Summer Internships at RBI.

The session was also attended by officers of the RBI Office, Shri Arvind Ekka, AGM, and Shri Sohan, Manager. The event concluded with a quiz competition, reinforcing financial concepts in an engaging manner where winners were awarded prizes, adding enthusiasm to the learning experience.
