Three-day residential workshop on Research Methodology for Jesuit Institutes of Central Zone held
Xavier Institute of Social Service (XISS), Ranchi, on the request of Jesuit Higher Education Association South Asia (JHEASA), organized a three-day workshop on research methodology at its campus from November 28 to 30, 2023. The event saw enthusiastic participation from 18 faculty members hailing from renowned Jesuit higher educational institutes such as St. Xavier's College, Ranchi, St. Xavier's College, Simdega, St. Xaviers’s College Dumka, St. Xavier’s College Ambikapur, Loyola College, Kunkuri and XIDAS, Jabalpur among others.
The workshop commenced with the inaugural remarks of the Convenor and Assistant Director, XISS, Dr Pradeep Kerketta SJ, who warmly welcomed the participants. He emphasized XISS's unwavering commitment to JHEASA and highlighted that this workshop marks the third program of the central zone of the association this year. Director, XISS, Dr Joseph Marianus Kujur SJ, echoed this sentiment in his welcome address, placing a strong emphasis on research, originality, methodologies, and academic publications in reputed journals. The coordinator of the workshop Dr Pramil Kumar Panda, Assistant Professor, Rural Management Programme spelt out the basic objective and expected outcomes of the workshop by emphasizing on learning, unlearning, and relearning of the participants.
Distinguished resource persons from XISS played a pivotal role in the success of the workshop. The key speakers included Dr Pramil K. Panda, Dr Anant Kumar, Dr Joseph Marianus Kujur SJ, Dr Amit K. Giri, Dr Bhabani Prasad Mahapatra, Dr Sharda Singh, and Mr Nirmal Kumar Mishra. The workshop covered a spectrum of topics, ranging from an introduction to social science research, literature review, research design, sampling, data collection, data processing, hands-on sessions on SPSS, academic research writing, to citation and referencing.
The valedictory session marked the successful conclusion of the workshop, during which the Director and Assistant Director of the institute congratulated all the participants for completing the rigorous research methodology workshop. Assistant Director expressed hope that the knowledge gained would contribute to individual capacity enhancement. Director affirmed XISS's ongoing commitment to the enrichment of the academic fraternity and Jesuit institutes.
Participants expressed their heartfelt thanks to XISS for organising such an important workshop. Certificates were conferred upon all the participants during the closing ceremony, symbolizing the successful culmination of the three-day workshop. XISS looks forward to continuing its efforts towards academic enrichment and collaboration with institutes, fostering a culture of excellence and learning.
