XISS celebrated 78th Independence Day amidst joy and fervor

Xavier Institute of Social Service (XISS), Ranchi, celebrated the 78th Independence Day amidst pride and joy on Thursday. The event commenced with the hoisting of the Tricolour by Director, XISS followed by the National Anthem to set the spirit of the day. Faculty, staff, and students attended the event and celebrated the day.

Dr Joseph Marianus Kujur SJ, Director, XISS, in his address emphasized that real freedom is when the mind is free, as Rabindranath Tagore has beautifully articulated. As a society, we must rise above our differences and work together to address the challenges of social inequality, economic disparity, and political fragmentation. He mentioned that our commitment to empathy, its understanding, and action will be our true contribution to nation-building.

Earlier, giving the Independence Day address, Fr Claber Minz, Finance Officer, discussed the importance of unity and collective effort in nation-building. He remarked that as India advances on the path of development, our achievements in science, arts, and culture stand as a testament to our progress. This Independence Day, we reflect on the theme of 'Developed India,' a vision that can only be realized through the active participation of every citizen.

The event was followed by cultural performances, which began with a welcome dance, patriotic group songs, and a power-packed skit performance on Tilka Manjhi, a Santali freedom fighter by the students of the Marketing Management Programme.

Three Institutional Scholarships worth Rs 8,10,000 were awarded to 26 students of the Programmes of Marketing Management, Human Resource Management, Rural Management, and Financial Management. These included the Fr Michael Van den Bogaert SJ Memorial Scholarship for meritorious students of SC/ST category (First rank-Rs 50,000 to 4 students, Second rank-Rs 40,000 to 4 students), Fr Michael Albert Windey SJ Memorial Scholarship for meritorious students on the whole, open to all categories (First rank-Rs 30,000 to 5 students, Second rank-Rs 20,000 to  students) and Fr Louis Francken SJ Memorial Scholarship (First rank-Rs 30,000 to 4 students, Second rank-Rs 20,000 to 5 students) for overall performance of all categories.

The event was organized by the students of the Marketing Management Programme. Assistant Director, Dr Pradeep Kerketta SJ, Dean Academics, Dr Amar E Tigga, Heads of all programmes of XISS including, Dr Bhabani Prasad Mahapatra, Dr Shyamal Gomes, Dr Anant Kumar, and Dr Bhaskar Bhowani were also present during the event.
