Fr. Francis David Kullu was born to a poor agricultural family of Taraboga Village in the remote Simdega District of Jharkhand. He belonged to the Kharia scheduled tribe and had his upbringing in poverty. Due to the benevolence of the Church he got admission in St. Mary’s School from where he did his matriculation with 63% marks. However, by this time the desire to serve the poor was forming in his heart and by the time he reached his class XII he decided to renounce his worldly life and become a priest in the order of the Society of Jesus. He joined the brotherhood in 1998 and was ordained a Jesuit priest in 2012. A keen computer enthusiast he did his Bachelors in Computer Applications from St. Xavier’s College, Ranchi and his Masters in computer Applications from Loyola College Chennai. A keen sportsperson Fr. Francis is very much into Basketball, Volleyball, Football and Athletics. Besides Hindi and English he is fluent in the tribal languages of Sadri and Khaira.
